Locals Like ... Sandra, Vaughan & Gabe

“We don’t drink normally …”
Who’s who?
Sandra Kingi (older sister, more mature), Vaughan Kingi (the younger) & Gabrielle Gaynor (used to be their boss and now BFF*).
How long have you known each other?
“Too long” and “One decade”
What do you all do?
Sandra’s an executive assistant, Gabe’s an accountant and Vaughan’s a tennis coach with his own tennis school. “And we’re all fabulously single!” (Hmmm, needs verification).
Are you local Locals?
Sandra and Vaughan came originally from the West Coast and Gabe’s a Christchurch gal. Gabe lives around the corner, Sandra’s up the road and Vaughan comes in from Redwood “it’s worth the trip”.
How long have you been coming to Pom’s?
“About 2 years. We usually come every Thursday night and some Sundays … plus Tuesdays and Saturdays … but not as often as Daryl!!!”
What do you enjoy about Pom’s?
“The bar staff are very cool. So are the people on this side of the bar. Great music!!! The food is excellent, especially the garlic fries. We like the wee beer garden in summer – you get to share a table and meet some really nice people. 11pm closing is actually very good for us. We all recently went tramping in the Nina Valley and, on the last day, our Dad (Ray Kingi, greenstone carver, Hokitika) practically ran out because he was so keen to get to Pom’s for a drink. He loves Pom’s.”
Uh, I notice none of you mention the great wine selection or the vast, exciting assortment of tap beers. What do you drink?
Sandra: “Heine but I’ve been known to enjoy a pils”
Vaughan: “Rum and coke in winter, Kiwi draught in summer”
Gabe: “I like a savvy”
If you won a ridiculous $36m on Lotto, what would you do with it?
Sandra & Gabe: “We’d love to open a Black Books-style bookshop, with big leather couches and wine and dysfunction …”
Vaughan: “I’d have the biggest tennis school in the Southern Hemisphere.”
Sandra: “Vaughan’s a natural entrepreneur. He’d invest in everything – he’s Mr Ideas.”
Vaughan: “That’s why I need Thirsty Thursday!”
What else do y’all like to do?
Gabe: “I walk the Bridal Path every day and Vaughan and I both like tramping.”
Vaughan: “Gabe loves Spiderman and Superman and would like to meet them.”
Sandra: “My great love is cricket and I used to work for New Zealand Cricket and so the odd cricket person has made their way in here to check out the beer!”
Well, Nurse, no signs of SAD affecting these lively locals. Still, I’d recommend continuing amounts activity and hilarity to be taken every Thursday. And Sundays. Plus Tuesdays and Saturdays.
(*Didn’t know that means Best Friend Forever? Which women’s magazines have you been reading?)
