Pomeroy's Update September - November 2009
<!--StartFragment-->
Phew - what a Winter! But you may not have noticed the gloomy weather if you’ve been a regular visitor to Pomeroy’s lately. Extraordinary hustle and bustle around here! All through the dark nights, the kitchen’s been cracking along and the Mid-Winter Xmas banquets have gone off big time – so much so Ava’s dad, Des, and his wife, Jo, came down for a visit and to help out. Back in June ‘Meet The Brewers’ was an occasion to remember (if you can) for the opportunity to taste hand-pulled Oyster Stout and to rub up against many of the geniuses responsible for your favourite brews. Put it this way, they were very genial! In July and August, well-attended wine and beer tastings were notable for the extravagance of both their food and drink, and many of you have been raving about the live music line-up of late. It’s all about the pursuit of happiness…
Did you know that over Winter an estimated 6% of the population suffers from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)? Lack of sunshine due to shorter days can cause serious biochemical imbalance of the hypothalamus in some folk, whereas the majority just suffer from mild ‘winter blues’. Symptoms include sleep disruption, lethargy, overeating, depression, social problems, anxiety, mood swings and loss of libido. Libido, yeah? I thought that was due to the necessity for winceyette pyjamas. People who live close to the Equator don’t suffer from SAD or winceyette, either of which may account for the higher population density in those countries.
The advance of Spring, with its longer, brighter days, can give you a huge energy boost and you’ll need it for what’s coming up at Pom’s. Dab your chin with a napkin as you peruse the delicious Spring menu; search out and give serious consideration to the fantastic beers on tap – Craig’s monthly selection is always enjoyable and the Brewer’s Reserve has been exciting, with more to come; rather exceptional beer, wine and whisky tastings are in the wind and, if that’s not electrifying enough, the oogie, boogie Halloween Party is coming … guess when! If you’re an enthusiastic participant in some of the hilarious hijinks at Pom’s, you may like to check out the new website from time to time www.pomeroysonkilmore.co.nz. We’re currently linking a photo gallery featuring some of your gorgeous mugs for you to blush at, download or send to your friends to treasure.
As the year canters towards it’s conclusion and the ‘Pomeroy’s Experience’ approaches awesomeness, remember this – seven days without laughter makes one weak!!
